Hungry to Support the Arts
FEAST (Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics) is a multi-disciplinary, community-based artist grant that’s funded by a monthly public dinner held at the Church of Messiah. Guests pay an entrance fee, eat a delicious meal, and vote on a variety of proposed artist projects. All proceeds collected go to the winner, and fund the project to be presented at the next FEAST event.
I’ve written about Funding Emerging Art with Sustainable Tactics before, and two weeks ago, I volunteered, baked, and attended their second dinner. I was flabbergasted by the turnout. There were nearly 300 guests who donated an entrance fee, voted on artist proposals — sprawled out on a board — and enjoyed a delicious dinner of salad, veggies, pasta, and dessert, while they watched music performances, speeches and presentations.
The latest dinner raised three times the amount from the first dinner, and $1000 in cash went to the winning artist. K.I.D.S. (Kindness and Imagination Development Society) and Secret School will map a network of secret gardens sprawled around Brooklyn and present the outcome in the next FEAST scheduled for May 9th. Submit your proposals, volunteer your hands and baked sweets, or attend to show your support.
