Shop Local, for sales and fairs and trunk shows, oh my!

If ceaseless online banner ads and sleigh bell-tinged television jingles haven’t made you aware already, we are indeed coming up on the last shopping weekend before Christmas. Yet whether your shopping is done, squashed by the recession or just in need of fine-tuning, Williamsburg and Greenpoint are set to satisfy your needs for solstice-time shopping. Shopping locally, you’ll find dozens of unique shops and boutiques from as far up as the North Pole (or in our case, the northern tip of Greenpoint). Many offering complimentary libations, merriment and of course, sources of Christmastide cheap chic.

Just some reminders:  For the second week, The Grand Adventure highlights fabulous clothing and gift boutiques along Grand St, (Mention the phrase “Grand Adventure” for special treats and discounts).

Also on Grand St, thru Mon: Greenpoint-based indie music retailer Insound is hosting a pop-up shop featuring a pop-up Design Store choc-a-bloc with vinyl records, turntables and music memorabilia—including a line of screen-printed t-shirts. The store is open from 4-10pm; with live music and free drinks from 7 until closing. That’s located over at 303 Grand St, bet Roebling and Havermeyer. On deck to play this evening are dj’s from Kanine Records.

In-store and online: Williamsburg discount shop Peachfrog(on N 10th St bet Bedford and Berry) is greeting shoppers Sat and Sun w/ free coffee and pastries from 12-4. Even more of a sweet jolt: become a fan of the store on Facebook for a chance to win a $200 gift certificate.

Onto Sat and into the 11222: Williamsburg’s Mary Meyer Clothing is having a trunk show/get together at 97 Green St, #G24 (bet Franklin and Manhattan), in Greenpoint, from 12-7 pm. You’ll be pleased to find discounts on her own line, samples—oh, and free Bloody Marys. While in the nabe, stop by Alter (109 Franklin, bet Greenpoint and Milton) for menswear sales, as well as Hayden-Harnett (211 Franklin St, between Freeman and Eagle Sts) for ongoing markdowns of as much as 50 percent. Hey, it may even turn into a full-on Hayden-Harnett dress-up party—and if playing with clothes won’t get you into the holiday spirit, well—think forward to New Year’s.
