SHOE SALE TIP TODAY:
Shoe Market, located at the corner of N 6th & Bedford in Williamsburg, is running a sale ending today: Buy one pair, get the second half off. During my perusal of the wares, I noticed the Sperry Top-Sider, pictured here.
While the sheer fact that sales mean lower prices, this particular shoe offers an added kick to the recession by way of its perpetual classic look. The shoe gained traction thanks to its heavy featuring in the tongue-in-cheek 1980s work of prescriptive literature “The Preppy Handbook.” Some 30 years later, the Sperry Top-Sider remains a comfortable work and interview shoe choice.
Or if nothing else, acceptable attire for a Vampire Weekend concert.
