N3 is turing into a really great block - especially between Berry and Wythe. The apartments on this block are huge and high-dollar. The block is thriving, apartment sales remain strong and this block is becoming the heart of Williamsburg. It seems to be the most stable block in Williamsburg and certainly the only one showing growth.

I talked to one of the construction managers about what is going in along North 3rd between Berry and Bedford (the major construction project). He told me Whole Foods won't be coming. According to him, the northeast corner of Berry and North 3rd will be a gym. Down the block closer to Bedford will be an HSBC bank (it's about time a major bank opened a branch in Williamsburg commercial center, although I'd like to see another credit union or community bank). Then of course is Duane Read (Soon to be Walgreens) on the corner of North 3rd and Bedford, which is a dick move to the guys across the street.

As for the talk about North 3rd not being what it used to be; I don't really get it, especially between Berry and Wythe. These are all small, locally owned, eco-friendly, socially conscious businesses. Did you prefer the steel fabricating factory that used to be the main attraction? Actually, if you circle the blocks around this one, there are a lot of artist studios and small, creative businesses popping up all over, as well as about 5 second hand shops.

There are still 2 or 3 open spaces on this block of North 3rd. Somebody please come open a cafe or restaurant, or maybe a Bodega of some sort.... And now, back to shoveling snow.

This neighborhood is tragically no longer what it used to be. Yeah, it’s got all kinds of cute and fancy but It had something else that will be lost forever. Bye Williamsburg. You were my home.

HA!!!!

What, exactly, did it used to be ? Perhaps if you explained what it is you so desperately miss about the area, and maybe explain where you are now, seeing as though you've left, we can get a sense of what Williamsburg meant to you.

You've probably moved to Park Slope with your kids.

Maybe this neighborhood is not what it used to be, but what's here is hardly tragic - it's great that local and independent retail is doing so well. I know people rail about the condos, but most of it is better than what it replaced, and this block in particular does it well. No sense in being a senseless hater.
