Wouldn’t it be nice if you could go to every film festival in the world? Failing that, wouldn’t it be nice if you could at least see the films from every film festival in the world? Maybe at home, whenever you wanted to see them, might as well add that, because it’s impossible; may as well have the films brought to you on a platter by flying purple unicorns.
Wrong! Greenpoint startup Vyer Films is your very own flying purple unicorn! They have created a film curation and streaming service that brings the best films from international festivals to your laptop (or any browser-enabled device, including smart TV). These are festival films you really can’t see anywhere else, and that’s why Vyer concentrates on titles that have little to no distribution at the time they are selected.
The streaming service is $20/month, which is a screaming steal; their catalog will only continue to grow. View their catalogue and read all about the service, here
Just released on Vyer Films: Ziba, directed by Bani Khoshnoudi. Ziba depicts monotonous and isolated daily life of Ziba Amini, a wealthy, well-educated housewife in Tehran.
One long summer day, she finds herself in an unexpected situation and realizes she has become unable to relate to the constricted way of life and cannot express her anguish to any of the characters she meets. Ziba is not a character portrait per se, but rather a visceral metaphor of the general state of oppression and imposed silence in Iran today.
Vyer Films brings the best films from around the world to the audiences looking for something new, unique, and unlike anything available at the local theater. Packaging each rental with exclusive essays, videos, and more, Vyer Films helps spur the kind of discussions we all want to have after seeing a great film, the ones that go on much longer than the film itself.
A pair of new releases, dozens of features, an ever-growing back catalogue, and an infinite number of conversations, all for $20/month. Currently, Vyer Films on computers, iPads, iPhones, Smart TVs, and any other browser-enabled device.
