There is a new collection of small novelty shops and boutiques joining the economic growth spurt in Williamsburg. It’s a new and communal setup, in a glass and steel building on Kent Ave between Grand and South 1st streets. There are almost 30 different businesses, among them longtime local shop owners who have moved their operations from their standalone brick and mortar shops to these new communal digs. A warm and twinkly holiday spirit is in full swing there now for their first holiday shopping season.
Liz Santiago is one of the new business tenants. She is a soap doyenne and owner of CeleBritAy, a 14-year-old Williamsburg beauty products business. Her shop was once located on Grand Street.
The CeleBritAy business model has evolved to streamline offerings to focus on three lines, Raw Organic Soap, Body, and Complexion/Face Skin care lines.
A chemist by trade, and an avid ingredients label reader, she has adopted as her core principles for all her products: purity and freshness. All her skin care ingredients are raw and organic—full of natural ingredients. For instance, “the olive oil we use is first press, and there’s no foot print between me and the producer.” This way, “we keep the vitamins and minerals intact,” says Liz. Prices for each item is kept as low as possible, from $5 – $50.
One will find no chemicals, fragrances, or anything that might irritate the skin in the CeleBritAy products, but all are imbued with naturally occurring vitamins that are highly beneficial and nutritional for skin.
At an upcoming workshop at 240 Kent Ave, Liz will be giving a facial cleanse workshop, and imparting her extensive knowledge about skin care. For only $25, participants are given a 5-step facial cleanse process, and have the unique opportunity to ask any questions they may have about their skin. “It’s awesome for every skin type, extremely oily, or dry, or for people who have skin issues including psoriasis, eczema, or rosacea. The products and the cleanse are perfect for all skin types,” says Liz.
A wonderful local business collaboration is also a part of the CeleBritAy story: CeleBritAy and O Live, a shop that specializes in olive oils and balsamic vinegars, located at Broadway in the Gretch Building, have joined forces on the production of the CeleBritAy, Limited Olive Oil soaps. It has been hugely popular line, says Liz, and she will make it unlimited soon. She uses the freshest olive oil available.
