Wilsen headlines at Baby’s All Right 07/18

July 18, 2014 By Genia Gould

Tonight’s headline show at Baby’s All Right may very well mark a watershed moment for ever so crowded indie-folk scene; the emergence of Brooklyn-based trio Wilsen.

The tagline for their four-track EP, Magnolia, appears as “Just press play and float away,” which is true enough, though it doesn’t fully explain that a listen includes surfing the swells and dips, and sometimes drowning, in a ocean of sound.

Tamsin Wilsen’s raindrops-on-an-electronic-xylophone vocals, paired with bandmates’ Johnny Simon Jr.’s minimalist guitar melodies, and Drew Arndt’s intricate basslines, tell the stories and ignite dreams of heaven. While evocative of the lushness and texture of European dream pop, Wilsen’s meticulous musicianship and spare, subtle arrangements craft a sonic wholeness that is specifically their own.

The band will follow their show at Baby’s All Right by starting work on their full debut album, slated for a 2015 release.
